Girls Flag Football enters the 2025 Fall season – from Optimist Youth Football, in association with Treasure Valley Women’s Flag Football (TVWF)! Click on link below to register.

This 5 on 5 program, known as Girls Flag 5s, is the same sport that will be introduced in the Olympics in 2028. Girls will learn the fundamentals of football. This is one of the most exciting developments since Optimist Youth Football was born in the Treasure Valley more than 75 years ago.

Even more exciting, our goal is to have a woman coach or mentor for each of the teams. In 2024, only 14 states have a Girls Flag Football program.

Program Format: 5 on 5

Team breakout for Spring 2026 – (Pending registration numbers)

• (8 and  9 year old league): 10 players per team – 4 teams (Estimated)

• (10 and 11 year old league): 10 players per team – 6 teams (Estimated)

• (12, 13 and 14 year old league) 10 players per team – 6 teams (Estimated)

• (15, 16 and 17 year old league) 10 players per team – 4 teams (Estimated)

Fall 2025 Season Finale / Spring 2026 Registration

Registration for the 2026 Spring Season opens on December 15th.  We are excited to offer a new High School Age league for girls ages 15-17 for the spring 2026 season.   The link to register for next spring is registration.optimistyouthfootball.com.

We're looking for passionate women to coach or mentor our new Girls Flag Football teams.

The Basics: Girls 5s Flag Football

Ages: Girls aged 8-14

Season: Spring and Fall

Games: Girls Flag 5s games are played during the week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. Practices start mid April and games are played during the month of May. Games in the Fall start in late August and go through mid-September.

Practices: Practice Locations vary by team and are generally at a neighborhood park or school. Teams may practice up to 3 times per week prior to the start of games, then once per week thereafter.

Teams: Boise and surrounding towns

Cost: $135/season; jersey and flags provided
